Chanel announced the death of her inspiring fashion designer, who stayed over half of a century on top with his extravagant outfits & striking catwalks, Karl Lagerfeld at age 85 on Tuesday a hospital located outside Paris.
It is with deep sadness that the House of CHANEL announces the passing of Karl Lagerfeld, the Creative Director for the CHANEL Fashion House since 1983.
Karl Lagerfeld is a German fashion designer, born in Hamburg to a German mother & a Swedish father worked in importing condensed milk.
He had a tough childhood that came in conjunction with WWII. He lived in family estate located in Bavaria with a French tutor that was his only available source of education.
His first breakthrough was in 1954 when he moved to Paris. He had drawn a a wool coat which helped him to win an apprenticeship with the fashion designer of his time, Pierre Balmain.
Not only Karl was in Paris seeking for opportunity but also Yves Saint Laurent who managed to establish his namesake label after winning the dress prize. It was a fierce competition to whom will be able to continue the career of the late Parisian society figure, Jacques de Bascher.
Chloe considered Karl’s first real success since the mids of 1960s till 1997 owned by Switzerland Richemont.
But Chanel was the brand behind his famous reputation when he managed to lift the brand’s profile through luxurious, stunning runways especially the show he designed last year featured with a full-scale beach in addition to an enormous replica ship.
The chief executive of Chanel, Alain Wertheimer explained how deep Karl reinvented Chanel in 1980s when he had given him a carte blanche to keep the brand with the spirit of ages. Karl is an active, workaholic person works from early morning till afternoon with no rest to achieve new designs for Chanel in addition to his own brand “Fendi and Karl”.
“Thanks to his creative genius, generosity and exceptional intuition, Karl Lagerfeld was ahead of his time, which widely contributed to the House of Chanel’s success throughout the world”, quoted by Alain Wertheimer.

His rough way he deals with any fashion models made him known as ” fashion nymphomaniac”.
If you are not trendy, Karl will turn his back to you. The former Chanel model, Ines de la Fressange is a clear example when he fired her in 1999 because she didn’t take his permission before posing “Marianne”, the France’s national symbol.
“I’m a kind of fashion nymphomaniac who never gets an orgasm”, Lagerfeld declared in a fashion show held in 1984.
He had a misunderstanding situation with Oscar-winner movie actress Meryl Streep when he said she refused to wear one of his dresses at an awards ceremony before being got paid at first. But later he half-apologized to her saying it was just a misunderstanding.
In 2004, he made a shock move for limited edition collections when he teamed up with H&M, the high street brand which is quickly copied by other competitors.
He has a lot of houses located in Germany, Paris, Monaco & Italy where he retires with an interior designs with lavish carbon copies of 18th-century.
Lots of celebrities & politicians pay tribute to the legend Karl.
Benjamin Griveaux, the French spokesman said; “France and Paris owes him so much”
La chose la plus importante à savoir en ce qui me concerne, c’est que tout ce que disent les autres n’est pas nécessairement la vérité “. Karl Lagerfeld. La France et Paris lui doivent tant.
Nicolas Sarkoz, Ex-President of Paris sent his condolence; He was a man who transcended material, style, clothing to reveal the personality. He embodied French excellence and elegance. His life was dedicated completely to his art, through hard work and exacting standards. Thank you, Karl Lagerfeld”.
C’était un homme qui transcendait la matière, le style, le vêtement pour révéler la personnalité. Il incarnait l’excellence et l’élégance à la française. Sa vie était un don total à son œuvre par un travail acharné et une exigence de tous les instants. Merci Karl Lagerfeld. NS
