"We are in an unknown territory situation. It is probable that human cases of chronic wasting disease associated with consumption with contaminated meat will be documented in the years ahead. It’s possible the number of human cases will be substantial, and will not be isolated events", according to Michael Osterholm, director ofCenter for Infectious Disease Research & Policy at the University of Minnesota.
Eating infected deer meat is the most likely way for CWD to spread among humans.
People ate 7,000 to 15,000 animals infected with CWD each year with a possibility of rising that no. by 20 percent annually.
Its not yet confirmed that CWD could infects humans. However, , the likelihood increases according to the consumption of infected meat.
